It was only last week that I had to step down as the chair of our local United Way campaign in order to accommodate my new responsibilities as an MP, or at this point, MP-Elect as I will not be officially sworn in until later this coming week. My brief time at City Council showed me first hand of the value of non profit societies and the importance they play in providing services to our citizens. I also learned firsthand from my time with the United Way of the needs that exist within a community that often we may be unaware of.
One such need was the lack of outdoor camping opportunities for disabled children. Fortunately local businessman Robin Agur and his family provided a great future home for a disabled children's camp and a group of dedicated hardworking volunteers are in the process of creating one of the very few facilities of this kind in our province.
The KVR Train event was a fundraiser for the Agur Lake Camp Society and it was great to see it so well attended. The Agur Lake Camp Society has worked with various levels of government and the private sector in partnership to help see this important facility get built.
