Seldom does a week go by when I am not in some way humbled by the work that we do as Members of Parliament on behalf of our constituents. Tonight is an all night debate over legislation that will potentially see Canada Post going back to work. It is in some respects a historic occasion. Typically the House of Commons would strand adjourned for the summer break- not tonight. Tonight we debate while the Country watches. I have heard from an overwhelming number of citizens from my riding of Okanagan-Coquihalla regarding this matter. Seniors and small business owners are very supportive of this legislation being passed. I am thankful for the amount of feedback I have received and the words of encouragement for the work that we are doing tonight. It is currently well into the wee hours of the morning here and at some point debate will conclude and ultimately a vote will be taken. I know that many citizen’s in my region will be happy to see Canada Post back at work (hopefully early next week) and that makes evenings like tonight’s all the more worthwhile. I will also credit my fellow members from the NDP, although we may differ in our views on this subject I respect their commitment to carry on this discussion to the extent that we are still debating at close to 3 am. I will further update you on this matter as the morning progresses. Sincerely, Dan Related articles
