Today I learned that a notice of motion from NDP MLA Lana Popham who represents the riding of Saanich South has recently introduced the following motion at the BC Legislature… ________ 4 Ms. Popham to move -- Be it resolved that the House urges the Government to act immediately to break down interprovincial barriers so that consumers can take their purchases from British Columbia’s wineries across provincial borders. ________ The motion was also strongly supported by BC Liberal MLA for Boundary-Similkameen MLA John Slater. The BC Legislature Hansard footage can be viewed by clicking the following link: http://leg.bc.ca/hansard/video/archive.asp?video=201204230930&time=10:03:55&toc=archive A special thank you to both sides of the BC Legislature in supporting the end of wine prohibition in Canada. Free trade in wine should not be a crime! Bill C-311 will be up for third reading review at the end of May and hopefully the same spirit of cooperation and support that has prevailed thus far from all sides of the House of Commons here in Ottawa will send C-311 onto the Senate. Also a special thank you the Canadian Vintners Association for hosting an excellent event last evening here on Parliament Hill, as well as meeting with many MP’s and Ministers yesterday to also promote support for Bill C-311 and other initiatives that can help strengthen our Canadian wine industry.
