MP Report

New fridges for Loblaws

This week’s report will be a short one.

Chances are you have heard of the giant grocery retailer that is owned by Canada’s second wealthiest family, the Weston’s.

Loblaws is a multi-billion dollar company that media sources reported, posted a $221 million net profit in the fourth quarter of 2018

The reason I mention this is the Liberal Government announced this week that it is giving Loblaws up to $12 million to help the for profit company to buy new, more energy efficient, refrigeration systems to help reduce Loblaws emissions.

This announcement has been one of considerable controversy in Ottawa as both the NDP and the Conservative opposition strongly disagree.

The obvious concern is that, when it comes to what Mr. Trudeau calls “putting a price on pollution”, why does the average person have to pay when a multi-billion dollar private company earning hundreds of millions in profits receives potentially $12 million towards new refrigeration?

 My question this week:

Do you support large private corporations being given millions of your tax dollars on programs such as this one?

Absolutely Not, this is very upsetting, another misuse of Canadian tax dollars. Large corporations can afford to pay for their own refrigerators.

Absolutely not! This is ludicrous! Borrowing millions of dollars to throw it at the rich for the middle class to pay back!

I think putting a price on pollution is bs. It is the Industry that is polluting that should be paying NOT the taxpayer! The carbon tax is a greedy money grab for the Liberals. AND I think as British Colombians have already been paying 'the carbon tax' for 10-years and that money goes in to GENERAL Coffer (Revenue) a.k.a a CASH COW! It will be the same for the federal LIBERAL government.

I think it's time BC LOSSES the carbon TAX! ENTIRE Canada shouldn't be paying this cash grab TAX, the governments unfairly strapped Taxpayers with! DITCH the Carbon Tax! And STOP giving taxpayers money's to LARGE, Rich Corporations or Businesses.

This is such bull!
This company is owned by billionaires. As if they can’t afford to buy their own refrigerators.
It is completely outrageous that taxpayer money is spent on this type of thing. While most of us are struggling pay cheque to pay cheque. So disgusting.
