It was two weeks ago that CBC reported that Canada’s Chief Public Officer, Dr. Theresa Tam stated: “all existing public health policies, including provincial vaccine passports, need to be "re-examined" — because it's clear now that Canada and the rest of the world will be grappling with COVID-19 for months or years to come.”
Unfortunately, we have yet to see any sort of plan for our path forward from this Trudeau Liberal government. As a result, earlier this week the official Conservative opposition tabled the following motion: “That, given that provinces are lifting COVID-19 restrictions and that Dr. Theresa Tam has said that all existing public health measures need to be "re-evaluated" so that we can "get back to some normalcy", the House call on the government to table a plan for the lifting of all federal mandates and restrictions, and to table that plan by February 28, 2022.” This motion by design did not dictate what that plan should look like only that we should have a plan. It was a motion that Global News Chief Political Correspondent described as a “very reasonable proposition to the Government”. Sadly, this Government is not, in my view, in a reasonable mood and opposed this motion. Fortunately, the BLOC was in support of this motion leaving the NDP to be the decider. I regret to inform you that once again the NDP has sided with the Liberals and opposed this motion. With no plan in place the illegal protests have continued and the tension in Ottawa has increased significantly. As you may now be aware, PM Trudeau announced he was invoking the Emergencies Act, which is the replacement for the former War Measures Act. The War Measures Act was only used once outside of wartime by Pierre Elliott Trudeau at the request of the Quebec Government in 1970. The replacement Emergencies Act has also never been used until PM Justin Trudeau decided to invoke it this week, despite opposition from many provincial Premiers most notably Quebec. However, the Premiers of BC and Ontario do support the Emergencies Act being used. What is the Emergencies Act? As the Canadian Civil Liberties Association describes it: “The Emergencies Act can only be invoked when a situation "seriously threatens the ability of the Government of Canada to preserve the sovereignty, security and territorial integrity of Canada" & when the situation "cannot be effectively dealt with under any other law of Canada." The last reference is of particular importance: that “cannot be effectively dealt with under any other law of Canada.” As all Canadians will know prior to the Emergency Act being invoked police were able to peacefully clear the Freedom protest that was occurring on the Ambassador Bridge under existing Canadian laws. In British Columbia we have witnessed the RCMP clearing anti-pipeline and old growth logging protests over the past six months also under existing Canadian laws. In summary, much as the Canadian Civil Liberties Association has also concluded, PM Trudeau has “not met the threshold necessary to invoke the Emergencies Act”. So how does Prime Minister Trudeau get away with invoking this if the threshold is not met? The Emergencies Act will need to be confirmed in the House of Commons where it is expected once again the NDP will prop up and support PM Trudeau and his minority Government. My thoughts? Aside from the fact that it is well established that existing Canadian Laws can deal with protests, in reality this is largely an Ottawa problem where the Ottawa police for whatever reason have either been unable or unwilling to deal with. Now many Canadians will be subject to the Emergencies Act for what we hope will be a short period of time largely to solve an Ottawa problem. My question this week: Do you agree with the decision by PM Justin Trudeau to invoke the Emergencies Act? I can be reached at Dan.Albas@parl.gc.ca or call toll free 1-800-665-8711.

This is indeed a sad day for Canadians and a sad day for democracy. I am absolutely appalled by the Prime Ministers actions. There needs to be a peaceful end to this situation and unfortunately it will not happen until Trudeau is gone from leading the country.

No. Simply no. Trudeau has failed at every decision for the entirety of this protest. He has proven that he is either inept or downright corrupt. Which side he lands on has yet to be seen.

No I'm not in favour. My understanding is that the Trudeau has made this decision because of the the poor behaviour of the protesters in Ottawa. The mainstream media seems to be supporting this but alternative media sources (Rebel News) and acquaintances I know on the ground are reporting a different narrative. Are you in Ottawa and have you had the opportunity to actually spend time at the demonstration to see what exactly is going on?

No, I'm not in favor. This IS NOT an emergency. There is no threat to our country. I cannot believe that the premier of BC has sided with Trudeau.

I Echo Francis' Question above: Which part or the protests in ottawa is 'illegal'? I understand there is some illegal parking, but from what I've seen traffic "CAN" still get through, albeit slowly.

Yes I agree with the PM’s decision. At this point it’s been weeks and no progress has been made since like you said, either Ottawa Police are inept or unwilling and I find it unacceptable the capitol of our country has been allowed to be controlled like this with little to no repercussions. The border crossings being blocked are also an area of concern, the economy has been hit hard enough surely any delay or halting of trade isn’t a good thing. There’s also the harassment and excessive noise/pollution that came along with this convoy. People walking down the street or those that belong to the LGBTQ+ community were victims to verbal abuse and disgusting acts. A lot of those involved in organizing this event show ties to white supremacist ideology and spread misinformation which damages and divides our society more than people say this government does.

Mainstream media would have you believe all of that. My question to you, is what part of your canadian being is against your own freedoms?! That I cannot understand, we are not asking you to come out of your house or take your mask off or stop jabbing yourself, what we are asking is the mandates to be lifted. Btw the Vax pass doesn't stop the virus ;) the Pm and the mandates have spread hate, division, decrease in mental health and racism in 2 years, and 2 weeks of dancing and horns blasting is nothing compared to the current destruction our corrupt pm has caused. How could you want to cause a war in your own country?!Canadians against Canadians, have you gone mad?!

Wow you really went through the whole checklist huh, was this ripped from a facebook page or did you come up with it? Well at least we can agree we don’t understand each other at all because oh boy you really made some wild statements there. I’d love to know how the mandates in particular spread racism and not y’know, the racists that saw COVID as an opportunity to cause a spike in anti-asian hate crimes across Canada and the US. And also the BS Pat King spews to his fellow white supremacists. But I’m sure you have a very credible source ;))) I hope you have fun and feel like you actually did something with these protests when really the mandates were going to ease off sooner rather than later anyway but hey! You got to party and subject people and pets to 24/7 honking, which is now leading to a class action lawsuit worth $306 million last I checked. That’s really something to be proud of patriots!

I do not agree with Prime Minister Trudeau invoking the Emergency Measures Act, this measure does not support Canadian values and is discriminatory against citizens voice their opinions against the government which we have a right to express.

No I am absolutely against suspending democratic rights by invoking the emergencies act. I too question what part of the protest is illegal. I thought the right to challenge the over-reach of government is not only a right, but a duty. Especially when our Charter of Rights and Freedoms have been trampled on over and over again in the last two years. The Honorable Paul Hellyer in his book. "The Money Mafia A World in Crisis", warned of a plan by the Cabal (Globalist) to create a one wold order, nice way of saying a Global Dictatorship. It sure looks to be the direction the present government would like to take us. Thank you Dan Albas for being on the right side of history.

I absolutely oppose the emergency measures act being used. Please stand for your constituents and vote against this. I see that many others are in the same mind as myself wondering what is illegal about the protest. The government has overreached their authority and caused hundreds of thousands of canadians to loose their jobs and livelihoods. While I know a small number of people who have died during the last 2 years, I know many more who had lost their jobs, or have felt forced into a Healthcare decision they are not comfortable with. The government is not meant to be paternal and the people have a right to voice this. When you go to parliament please fight for our freedoms and livihood and put an end to this road to tyranny.

National disgrace. People will never forget or forgive. Totally avoidable by simply ending mandates on truckers supplying our country crossing the border. Common sense is hard to find. The liberal narrative is now solely based on false MSM propaganda talking points of extremism, white supremacy and racism as the driving force of the protest. Somehow dismissing the 2 years of Charter of Rights violations as being the driving force. The overreach and brutality seen in Ottawa is by far my saddest moments in my 50+ years as a Canadian.
